Galileo’s Eye, a sustainability tool based on the Exergy approach

Exergy Ltd and Solberg Eng. have been working together for the past three years in the development of the sustainability rating tool

Exergy Ltd and Solberg Eng. have been working together for the past two years in the development and testing of the successful Galileo’s Eye methodology. The exergy-based technology allows optimising the use of the resources such as energy, water, and materials. In comparison to the Energy Efficiency rating, the Exergy Efficiency also consider environmental, economic and social indicators. Exergy Efficiency measures the quantity and also the quality of energy consumed.

“We have developed interesting ideas and projects together around the exergy methodology. Now, we think it is time to strengthen the efforts with the ultimate goal of empowering businesses and communities to achieve their sustainability goals”, said Fernando Centeno, Exergy Ltd.

Proven Methodology

The methodology has already proven its effectiveness. More than 73% savings in water use and 39% savings in fossil use were achieved in a group of facilities in Minnesota, USA. In Colombia, the methodology was also applied in the waste treatment facilities of the Medellin City. Feasible strategies for waste management in the city were proposed and if implemented the system can increase its Exergy Efficiency by 39% compared to the current scenario. In Europe, Galileo’s Eye is being applied in various scenarios and projects that aim to reduce the environmental impact and improve the use of scarce resources.

“The Global situation is demanding more innovative and efficient solutions to face the challenge of the climate change,” said Dave Solberg. In the USA, for example, the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), with over 650 school members, is thriving to take immediate actions to reduce greenhouse emissions and go climate neutral. This is a clear evidence of the growing need for integrated technologies that can effectively help them fulfil their commitment.
The Collaborative Mission was constituted in January 2017 offering specialized services for the North American Market.
